Day 35. Liege to Ypres. Last day of competition and it was very
different to previous days - Monit skills to the fore, and tight twisty
lanes through Flanders fields. Add in the mixed emotions of it being the
last day and it was a challenge! However apart from being rather slow
on the final test (vaporisation from sitting in the queue meant Gidget
didn’t start firing on all four until we had done a third of the stage!)
we managed all the controls and once we’ve sorted a misunderstanding about some penalties all will be well. Huge thanks to Mark and Janie for being here in Ypres to welcome us - brilliant! And to the charming and delightful Philippe
Deckers who runs the AH Club locally for coming all this way to say hello - thank you. A visit to the Tyne
Cot cemetery on our way in plus standing at the Menen Gate for the last
post at 8pm were vivid reminders of the immense sacrifices made here 100
years ago. And Ypres is stunning and put on a fabulous welcome for us,
even if most of the locals were somewhat perplexed by the invasion! Paris here we come....Photos from Philippe (thank you Philippe) as well as mine (including the irrepressible Jamie Turner and Matt Bryson on the original Contal, Janel Trowbridge being chauffeured by Mark, and a rather tired Adrian Hodgson in the Austin Westminster), and one of me asleep taken by Eric Anderson (in the Oldsmobile)
