The so-called rest day in UB turned out to be a day for Gidget to go on a diet. We had been bouncing along on the bump stops for the previous two days acorss the Gobi, and the bump stops were wrecked; and we had lost one leaf spring already. So we spent a couple of hours pulling everything out of the car, and unless we had used it already (and even then there were exceptions) it went in the box to be left behind. By the end of the diet, we had lost somewhere between 35 and 40kg in weight, and increased our chances of getting out of Mongolia a bit.
The second part of the day involved a full service of the car, spanner checking throughout, and greasing up all the grease points on the suspension and transmission.
By the time that was all done, there was time for a beer and dinner, and an early night, as the start in the morning had been pulled forward.
