Last “rest” day, in St Petersburg. Bah humbug. Didn’t get to see much of
St P’s as was in the garage with Gidget. We had good company with Anton
on the Contal and the Dato 240z of Filip Engelen and Ann Gillis. And the kitten mascot of the garage.
Good news is that the starter motor now works - turns out the power to
the piggy back solenoid had come loose inside the housing. And I’d fried
the solenoid electro magnet just a bit. All cleaned up, resoldered and
now operating like new! Also took the opportunity
to change the diff and gearbox oil while the bash-plate was off,
greased all the appropriate locations, gave the brakes their feel back,
and cleaned off as much of the filthy stinking diesel from underneath as
possible. Then brought her back just in time for early dinner with
Adrian and Owen
at the most excellent Red House. Chicken Kiev even though we’re not in
Ukraine. And cherry strudel - yum! Ready for the border crossing to
Finland tomorrow. Photos of Gidget on a hoist, again, bits of broken car
etc....oh, and we’ve moved up another place in the rankings somehow. Now
30th overall and 17th in class 🤣 And start times are reversed tomorrow...
